What services do we provide?

Meeting the special eye care needs of children, the clinic is comprised of specialists and subspecialists. In addition to physician specialists, there are certified orthopists who provide precise strabismus evaluation and oversee therapy of certain conditions. Adult patients with stabismus are also treated by the pediatric team. Staff certified in ophthalmic assisting provide assistance to the physicians and care to all patients.    

Referral process 

  • The referral process is made through a direct referral from a pediatrician or family doctor or optpmetrist to a specific specialist or the clinic in general. 
  • Referrals can be faxed directly to the clinic.

Clinic hours

The clinic hours are Monday to Friday (closed on holidays)

  • 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Urgent referrals 

The clinics are not for emergencies. If your child needs to be seen on an urgent basis, please contact your family doctor or go to your local emergency department. 

Changing your appointment

Please contact us as soon as possible, if you need to change your child's appointment or cancel the appointment.

Important

If your child has a communicable disease such as Chicken Pox or has been in contact with someone with Chicken Pox, please call the clinic before you come to the hospital 

What should you bring to the clinic?

  • Health Card for your child - the Ministry of Health requires us to validate your health card.
  • All birth records and any test results or assessment reports available from other institutions.
  • Any notes or questions that you may have.
  • Glasses and/or contact lens case, if applicable
  • List of current medications

Patient education materials

To provide parents with information about their child's condition and treatment, the Ophthalmology team has developed a series of patient education materials:

  • Visiting the Eye Clinic
  • Learning to see
  • Wearing glasses
  • Wearing an eye patch
  • Watery eyes
  • Droopy eye lids
  • Dilating eye drops
  • Eye exam under anesthetic
  • Opening your child's tear passages
  • Glaucoma in children
  • Strabismus
  • Surgery for strabismus
  • Cataract surgery

    These materials are set up to print on a home computer, using letter size paper.
