McMaster Children's Hospital is the primary provider of tertiary health care services to children in Hamilton and the surrounding region. McMaster Children's Hopsital has activities on two sites (McMaster site and Chedoke site).

McMaster Children's Hospital has:

• 139 acute care beds
  • 51 Medical/Surgical beds
  • 47 Neonatal Intensive Care beds
  • 14 Level II Nursery beds
  • 8 Critical Care beds
  • 4 step-down care beds 
  • 8 Mental health beds
  • 4 Express beds (Open 12 hours each day to accept overflow admitted patients from the ER)
  • 3 Flex beds (Open 4 to 6 months of the year during high demand times - seasonal infections, etc)

• 40 pediatric specialty clinics at the McMaster and Chedoke sites
  • approximately 165,000 visits to our outpatient clinics and testing facilities

Services provided in fiscal year 09/10:

• 5,558 discharges (i.e. inpatients)
• 4,100 surgeries
• 526 children admitted to the Pediatric Critical Care Unit
• 792 babies admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
• 369 admissions to Level II nursery
• 17,658 emergency department visits (an increase of over 2,000 visits from 08/09)
