McMaster Children's Hospital is pleased to partner with the City of Hamilton - Public Health Services on the Hamilton Helmet Initiative, a partnership of community organizations sharing the common goal of reducing brain injuries by increasing helmet use.

Wheeled activities such as cycling, in-line skating, skateboarding and scootering require helmets for safety. While falls result in a variety of injuries, head injuries are the leading cause of serious injury and death to children, particularly those not wearing helmets.

Helmets are a vital piece of safety equipment. A properly fitted helmet can reduce brain injury by 88 per cent.

The Hamilton Helmet Initiative offers access to low cost and free helmets to children and their families across Hamilton.
