What Happens When We Arrive?
When you arrive to the clinic please check in with the Business clerk at the reception desk. The business clerk will let the team know that you have arrived.
Staff will do their best to make sure you are seen at your appointment time. If you feel you have been waiting a long time please speak with a business clerk at the reception desk.
The referral process in made through a direct referral from a pediatrician, other specialist or a family doctor to a specialist.
Referrals can be faxed directly to the clinic as noted on the referral form
All referrals are screened by one of the clinic doctors
The clinics are not for emergencies. If you or your child needs to be seen on an urgent basis, please contact your family doctor or go to your local emergency department.
The clinic hours are Monday to Friday (closed on holidays)
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Changing Your Appointment:
Please contact us as soon as possible, if you need to change or cancel your appointment.
If you or your child has a respiratory illness with coughing/fever or vomiting/diarrhea please do not come to the clinic but call for further assessment/instructions as soon as possible prior to the appointment.
If the patient is ill with any antibiotic resistant organism, MRSA, a communicable disease (such as chicken pox), or respiratory infection, please notify the staff at the reception desk upon arriving at the clinic as the child will be directed to a location other than the main waiting room
What Should You Bring To The Clinic:
Health Card - the Ministry of Health requires us to validate your health card at every clinic visit
Any relevant x-rays, letters, or blood work from your doctor
Any notes or questions that you may have

The 2H Clinic at McMaster University Hospital consists of a complete comprehensive care team specializing in neuromuscular and neurometabolic diseases. In addition to our Doctors, there is a Psychiatrist and Developmental Pediatrician available to support our patients when necessary. The clinic support team consists of the clinic coordinator and business clerks organizing new referrals as well as booking appointments. The nurse, genetic counselor and the exercise testing technicians collaborate with the Physicians to provide optimal patient-centered care and support. This may include, genetic, exercise and functional testing as well as patient education.
Exercise Testing Technicians:
The techs conduct various exercise, pulmonary, strength and functional testing on patients as well as educating them on disease-specific exercise programs that they can incorporate into their daily lives.
The duties of the EMG tech include conducting electromyography tests which measures electrical activity in peripheral nerves to assist the Physician in diagnosing neuromuscular disorders.
The duties include coordination and interpretation of genetic results to patients as well as education around inheritance and implications of other family members.
The duties of the RN include taking patient histories in clinical appointments, assisting the Physician in procedures, as well as patient education in regards to medications and treatments.
The duties include answering any general patient inquiries concerning our clinic, organizing new referrals as well as booking new consults and follow-up appointments for patients. In addition, they are responsible for scheduling in the Resident rotations within the clinic.
