Philosophy

Illness of a child affects all members of the family and at McMaster Children's Hospital the care we provide is family-centred. This means that you, your child and family are an important part of the health care team.

The clinics are not for emergencies. If your child needs to be seen on an urgent basis, please contact your family doctor, pediatrician or go to your local emergency department.

Referral Process

The referral process is made through a direct referral from a pediatrician or family doctor to a specialist.

Referrals can be faxed directly to clinic

Important

If your child has either been in contact or has a communicable disease such as Chicken Pox or Measles, please call the clinic before you arrive for your appointment.

What should you bring to the clinic

  • Your child's health card - the Ministry of Health requires us to validate your child's health card at each visit.
  • Any xrays or letters from your referring physician
  • Take the time to list the questions that you want answered when you meet with the team. You are then able to discuss the concerns that you have before you leave your appointment.
  • List of your child's medications and dosage

Family Resource Library:

The Family Resource Library is located in the 3F clinic. Volunteer staff are available to help families find information (pamphlets, articles, internet sites) about their child's health or illness concerns.
